This presentation examines vibration mitigation and energy transfer in linear and nonlinear dynamical systems subjected to deterministic and stochastic excitation. The first part considers narrow-band-excited systems equipped with tuned mass dampers, with particular attention given to different topologies of spring and damper connections between the primary structure and the absorber. The generated non-traditional dampers’ and their performance is compared with classical tuned mass damper through exact analytical development and computational optimisation. The results illustrate how topology can be exploited for vibration mitigation in stochastic dynamical systems. The second part addresses targeted energy transfer (TET) in vibroimpact systems, where a ball travelling freely inside a harmonically excited capsule. TET can be used for effective vibration mitigation, energy harvesting and in other relevant applications encountered in mechanical, electrical and biological systems on both macro- and micro- levels. In considered system, dielectric energy-harvesting elements are activated during impacts, enabling part of the transferred vibration energy to be converted into electrical energy. The results shows that higher mass ratios, between the ball and the capsule, can unexpectedly degrade performance, introducing adverse effects that counteract the intended benefits of energy absorption.
